How large would a room need to be for me to have a pool table?

I want to surprise my husband with a new pool table, but I am not sure that the spare room I have available is a large enough space. What are the minimum room dimensions to accommodate play on a standard size pool table?

Depends on the size of the pool table. You add 10' to the dimensions of the table to get your minimum room size. For example if the table is 4' x 8' then your minimum room size would be 14' x 18' . This gives you 5 feet of room all the way around the table which is enough room to shoot any shot with a standard size 58'' pool cue. Of course a larger room would provide more comfort but these are the minimum dimensions. Good luck to ya!

A good rule of thumb is to take the length of a stick + (1/2)the length of that same stick, and measure that distance out from each bar of the table. Unless you want holes in your walls...

The most common size table in most homes is 8 ft. due to space limitations, and they can be a lot of fun, but the official size is 9 ft.
