Why do cheap cues have nice designs?
i see some cues such as fury..or other cheap companies.scorpion and blaze, having nice designs with what seems like more inlays. but then i compare them with quality cues like viking and predator, and for the same price the higher end cues designs are way more simple. is there a reason for this? are the high end cues a much better play and feel than these cheaper end cues with more design? thanks.

THE BETTER CUES ARE MADE OF BETTER WOOD. AND AS FAR AS THE CHEAPER ONES THEY USE CHEAP WOOD SO THEY MAKE THEM LOOK GOOD SO PEOPLE WHO DON'T PLAY SERIOUSLY WILL BUY THEM. ALWAYS GO FOR THE BETTER WOOD CUES, DON'T WASTE TIME ON THE CHEAP ONES IF U R A SERIOUS PLAYER.I keep getting barred from the sweet dreams pool room i cant understand why?
The cheaper cues aren't inlays, they are decals or stickers. The more expensive cues use quality, precious, and expensive inlay materials, which increases the value. There is also significantly more work that goes in to designing these cues.www.trickshottim.com

I have owned both the cool looking cheap sticks and the boring looking good stick. I believe that the cheap stick companies put the cool looking stuff on them just so that they catch your eye so they can sell them. The better, more expensive stick makers dont care if the stick looks fancy, they just want them to be solid and hit good. I shoot now with a Predator Series1. I have had many sticks yet the plain looking Predator has been kept as I have bought & sold around six other poolsticks (ranging from $50-$325), and nothing hits as good as my plain looking Predator. So my advice is to you, dont pay any attention to what a stick looks like. Pay for quality in a stick, not the fancy artwork. If your stuck on a stick that has both though, I would say the best looking sticks that still keep quality and cost in mind is Viking.What's wrong with Ronnie O'sullivan?

The high quality cues will sell, whether they look good or not.The cheap cues have to compete with each other, so they all try to look cooler than their competition.
I personally own 2 Viking cues. 1 from the 1970s and one from a few years ago. Both are plain. One has a redish brown handle, and the other is a blueish green color. No designs.
I wouldnt want flashing colors or anything like that distracting me when I shoot.
As for quality, If you have to ask, you shouldnt spend the money. If you are good, and can afford it, buy a nice cue. If you are just starting out, you dont need something that nice. You could EASILY ruin it!
Once you start to use different cues, you can tell the difference in quality. You will start to see how heavy/light you want your cue to be, what kind of grip, wood, etc.
Graphite is nice for beginners, it wont break or warp as easily, but once you get better, you realize that it isnt as smooth as a good quality wood cue.
A $20 cue from wal-mart is just as good to a beginner as a $1,000 cue.
