The term "billiards" is a all-encompassing term for all cue sports. Pool (A.K.A pocket billiards), snooker and carom games each fall under the category of billiards. Today people often refer to billiards only in terms of "carom" games. Carom games are the games played on the tables without pockets. The most popular carom game is called "three-cushion billiards". Pool and snooker are both games played on tables with pockets. As stated earlier, snooker tables are larger than pool tables, and have smaller pockets. These are the basic differences.
