It doesnt matter how many cushions you hit, if your cue ball doesnt make contact with your object ball it is a foul. After contacting your object ball, a ball must be pocketed, or a ball must contact a cushion for the shot to be legal.

I don't know about three walls but I personally saw the cue ball jump off the table and hit two Walls. Twin brothers John and Jimmy Wall were standing too close to the table when their teammate went to break open the rack. The cue stick lifted the cue ball over the rack and first hit John on the left arm which in turn caromed into Jimmy's right arm. Since the rules of '8' ball state that the game doesn't begin until the balls are broken, in this case it was "no table scratch" and their teammate was allowed to break again. This time the Wall's were 60-feet away from the table. Smart move! Because the second attempt by the guy breaking hit a guy sitting at the bar. Hope I answered your question to satisfaction.
