Anyone have any idea of why i keep getting BARRED from playing pool, thru the backdoor?
If you're looking for something not too fancy to stick in your patio or in your garage to play casually, you can get a cheaper table that is playable to the casual player. Something like a Mizerak will run you under $800.If you're looking for a quality, furniture grade table for indoors, there's a lot to choose from. Stay away from the garbage that they're importing from Asian countries (like the CampRans). They're not well made. The holes for the bolts, screws, etc. don't line up right. They're harder to level. If you order one and a part is delivered broken or a piece is missing, it can take another 6-8 weeks to get a replacement.
Aside from staying away from particle board, also stay away from Birch. It is a 'softer' wood than oak, and is prone to warping.
Brunswick, Olhausen, American Heritage, and Connelly are all American made, quality tables. Stay away from the lower end tables (usually laminate or veneer) that these companies manufacture though.
Look for a used table from one of the major name brands above. You can often times find them for half of what they would cost you retail.
Like the guy said above, spend the extra money and get Simonis felt. It will last over twice as long as Championship or Mali.

1st you have to ask yourself--jdo i want a piece of furniture ?--or just a good table----most brand names will have a base line---stay away from anything that uses particle board in the frame---some will use it as the backing on the slate--thats okay---but besides making sure that the table is made of wood--make sure the frame is assembled at the factory and arrives at your house in one piece---it is much stronger than a knock down frame----the thicker the wood in the frame is--the better-----also make sure you get one inch slate--its not any better than 3/4 inch--but it is heavier--heavier is better----stay away from base model brunswicks--they are junk---try olhausen or connelly tables---and spend the extra money and get simonis cloth--its fast and durable-----and don,t let the installer glue your cloth to the table--make sure he staples it!----and don,t bother with a ball return--they are a nessecity on a pay table but suck on a home table---and make sure to get aramith balls and dufferin cues with your table----i used to own a billiards store---take my advice and you won,t go wrong---and remember --just because a table looks fancy doesn,t make it any better than a plain one---its just more expensive!
