The most important part of any cue is the condition of the tip. On a standard 13mm tip, the curvature of the leather tip should be roughly that of a nickel. The hardness of the leather tip is another factor. Most professionals play with a harder tip. You can test this with your thumbnail. The straightness of the shaft is also important. There is a lot of controversy about the benefits of a "pro-taper" shaft. In my opinion, a shaft should never be perfectly cylindrical along it's length. There should be a gradual taper along the entire length of the shaft, from the joint to the ferrule. This greatly reduces warping down the road. The joint itself is something many people overlook completely. To have good harmonics, a cue should feel like a solid piece of wood. I play with a Ray Schuler custom cue (www.schulercue.com) and the joint comes together in such a way that the harmonic frequency is unbroken from the tip to my grip hand. This is why I tell people (and some people think I'm crazy for saying it) that I can play nearly as well with a high quality bar cue as I can with my own. Also, what kind of grip do you prefer, smooth, Irish linen, leather, etc? The balance point is important, too. You don't want a cue that feels too "butt-heavy". This may cause unwanted movement in your cue tip. Of course, there is more, but I digress. If this is your first cue, don't spend too much money on it and realize that you will want to upgrade after your figure out what is important to you.

What is snooker?

A nickel ? That's for beginers . If you're serious , get a diamond tipped cue . Look for a snooker cue ( a real one ) , it's hard to get used to but when you do , you'll know . Also get a bottom weighted cue , heavy cues are for breaking only . Don't use the "good " cue for breaking .
