Is there anyone here that plays in a pool team?
i was just wondering what people thought of the rules now! Having to hit a cushion every shot unless you pot etc! I was quite a good pool player (playing 1st division in the Croydon Leagues) and i personally think the rules have messed my game up!

How do u talk to the person am playing pool with?
I personally think its making a very simple game a little more difficult & interesting, its stopped a bit of the tippy tappy roll up snooker playing of years gone by.It's been like that in 9 ball always so I mix up the 2 games so am used to it. Play a bit of 9 ball, it'll get you used to contacting a cushion.
Good luck!
World-standardized rules have had this requirement for many years. It's a shame that all local leagues haven't followed suit and much more quickly. The rules are intended to make the game as fair as possible and to limit the ability of one player to cheat the other. The cushion rule is a perfect example. Anybody could just bunt the balls an inch or two to play safe, but where's the skill in that? That's what I consider "dirty pool". Now, I'm a huge fan of defensive play. The cushion rule requires the players to display some level of skill in safety play. Playing by the rules will only make you a better player. I'll bet that you're still a very good player. Look at this as a personal challenge for your game. What you're doing is holding yourself to the same standards that the professionals do. That's not to say that you should expect to play like a pro, but at least you'll be playing the same game. I wish you luck. Hang in there. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
American heritage pool tables?
Straight is "straight" on it.I guarantee.I bet all of my money...without a doubt...no hesitation.that if this was not the rule.I would do the same thing...bunt the ball a few inches and just get you so "P.O." at me..I am there to win and will do what ever it takes to keep you racking...this rules eliminates this from happening and saves my butt from a whipping when I get you upset at me...follow the rules and you will win "fair"..with this rule.."defense" is that and not "dirty pool"...either way..I will still get you "P.O." at me with my defense anyway.....'RACK THEM"What keeps the cue ball from the rest of the balls(sunk balls) on the pool table?
Rail contact is by no means a new rule i got called on it 20 years ago ,your league may have just started useing it its all BCA i would think it just prevents silly little roll ups that some people want to play for some reason a posiyion player has no trouble with itSee you in Lost Wages its bout that time again
