What is snooker?

What is the best way to learn how to play pool; from a teacher or by oneself with a book?

Snooker is a billiards sport that is played on a large (12' × 6') baize-covered table with pockets in each of the four corners and in the middle of each of the long cushions. It is played using a cue, one white ball (the cue ball), 15 red balls and 6 colours: a yellow (worth 2 points), green (3 points), brown (4 points), blue (5 points), pink (6 points) and black ball (7 points). A player wins a frame of snooker by scoring the most points, through using the cue ball to pot all the red and coloured balls. A match consists of an agreed number of frames. Snooker is particularly popular in English-speaking countries (Britain, Ireland, Canada, Australia and South Africa), and there has recently been a surge of interest in East Asia, with players from Hong Kong, China and Thailand entering the rankings. It's also very popular in Pakistan and India.

Who is the greatest pool player of all time?

Snooker is a similar sport to pool but much more difficult. The game is played on a 12' x 6' table containing 15 reds and 1 yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black ball. Each ball is worth a set amount of points. red 1, yellow 2, green 3, brown 4, blue 5, pink 6 and black 7.

To play the game the player must first pot a red ball using the cueball. Once a red is potted the player then must select on of the 6 other colours to pot. If the player pots their selected colour they must then pot another red. The player continues this process until their either fail to pot a ball or commit a foul. The player with the highest score wins the game.

But of course, this is not as easy as it sounds!

What is better 7ft pool table with room or 8 ft without room to hit?

Snooker is played upon a six pocket table that is measured 12 feet by 6 feet. The balls are a smaller diameter than pool balls and the pockets are smaller with sharper corners with the cue sticks longer. There are 15 balls and six colored balls. The red balls are placed in a regulation pyramid and each red ball counts 1 point when pocketed. The colored balls are; brown 4 points and placed on the balk-line spot; yellow ball 2 points placed 10 inches to the right of the brown; green ball 3 points placed 10 inches to the left of the brown; blue ball 5 points placed in the center of the table; pink ball 6 points placed at the apex of the pyramid; and the black ball 7 points placed half way between the base of the pyramid and the bottom cushion.

All shots are made with the white ball and the first shot must be from the balk and on one of the red balls. If the shooter makes a red ball he gains one point and can then shoot at any colored ball. If he pockets the colored ball he gets that value. All red balls remain pocketed and the colored balls are respotted (to their original position). As long as the shooter pockets the balls, he continues to shoot, if he misses shooting passes to the next player.

When all of the red balls have been pocketed, the colored balls must played (and holed) in their numbered order.

There is a lot more but that is essentially snooker.
