In pool, what is the difference between 8 ball and 9 ball?

In 8 ball the player to first knock in a ball is either solids or stripes they sink those balls until all the balls of that category are sunk. Then he hits the 8 ball in. In 9 ball you break and sink the balls in order 1 2 3 4 etc.

8 ball and 9 ball are probably the two most popular games in pool. 8 ball uses all 15 object balls . One player shoots stripes and the other solids. After a player makes all of his object balls and makes the 8 ball without fouling he wins the game. 9 ball is a rotation game where the balls must be shot in order from 1 to 9. The first player to make the 9 ball on a legal shot is the winner. In 8 ball you must clear all of your object balls before making the 8. In 9 ball as long as you hit the lowest numbered ball on the table first you can sink the 9 ball at any time. These are just basic outlines of these two great games. Does it matter how long your pool cue is?

More so for the 8 ball...the biggest difference that in 8 ball it really is a "chess game".you have to really think in both games but more so in 8 ball..more balls to work with or travel around and thru...also 8 ball is like a war..if you can't kill them all then don't sacrifice them..you might need them later in order to run out..if you can't kill them all(run out) then play defense and save your soldiers(balls) for later..too much thinking for me.that is why I prefer 9 ball..another slight difference is that you can get out of line in 8 ball and still luck out if you still enough soldiers(balls) out to save yourself..in 9 ball..stay in line or you might have to give up the table..hope this helps some..good luck on the tour!!
