Hi Hendu, to check if your rail are ok is by just simply bouncing ball on it, you will know if theres a dead rail if there is a irregular bounce, bounce the ball on the rail every few inches, this is how i test the rail in my pool hall. As for re felting your table , if there is no wood where you can staple your felt, then the other alternative is to use an adhesive spray. You clean the surface of slate then spray the adhesive, leave it for about 5 mins then put the felt on one end first then slowly work the felt right up to the other end. Good luck

You should be able to hear the difference between a dead cushion and one that rebounds properly. You'll hear a definite "thud" on a dead cushion. If you're familiar with lagging for the break, use a similar speed from both ends of the table and you'll notice whether or not you seem to be shooting harder or not to get the ball back down table. Try a few simple kick and bank shots and see whether or not the balls rebound accurately. As for reclothing your table, take it to a retailer. Unless you're trained to do it, it's more of a headache than it's worth. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
