Female lifeguards, what do you wear when on the job?

I am 17 and I am taking lifeguard cert. classes this weekend and i am wondering what would be appropriate to wear?? We are supposed to bring our own swim suits. I kind of dont want to wear a one piece or tankini because of weird tan lines. And im pretty comfortable with my body to wear a bikini. But would it be strange for a lifeguard to wear a bikini? I dont want to show up to cert. classes with a bikini on and have everyone else in one peices and all covered up.

I worked on the biggest beach in Chicago for 2 summers -- and when I wasn't working there, I was enjoying the weather on all the other beaches in Chicago.

In my experience of the past 4 summers on the beaches here I haven't seen a female lifeguard in a 2 piece. They all wear one pieces.

I think you'd be safer wearing a one piece to start with. It would be less weird to be more covered up than everyone than to be the only one who is showing skin :)

I've been a lifeguard for three years now..and in a lifeguard class you need to wear a one piece..when you start boarding people.if your the victim you don't want to be on the board.have someone reach across you to grab a strap and have to Velcro stick to your suit and have your boob hang out..do defiantly wear a one piece.and besides.the jobs about saving people.not looking good. If you get the job go ahead.i wear two piece suits..but when training wear one

I am a lifeguard instructor for the Red Cross and I advise you to wear a one piece bathing suit, preferably a sport or racing suit for all guard activity. You must be in a suit that will stay put for rescues and exercises. Being a lifeguard is not about getting a tan, it's about ensuring the safety of the people in the water.

I'm just learning to swing with no hands but i keep falling?

Definately wear a one-piece suit for the class! Depending on where you end up working will depend on what kind of suit they let you wear. The pool I've been working at for 7 years gives us red one-pieces every year, and a lot of other places expect you to wear one pieces. There will most likely be kids around where you work, and no mom really wants to see a lifeguard prancing around in a string bikini. I know that TYR and Speedo make two piece lifeguard suits, either tankinis or bikinis where the top is like a sports bra and the bottoms are briefs. You might want to check those out and ask your future employer if those are okay to wear (so your stomach can get tan!). But otherwise get used to weird tanlines (back, tops of thighs, tops of feet--flip-flop tan!, etc.) or plan on spending your days off laying out in your bikini!
