As for his diet he needs about 45-50% carbs, around 25-30% protein and the rest should be some more carbs and protein with some fat added in (he still needs it in his diet, actually we all need those 3 things in our diets). There are of course simple carbs of monosaccharides such as starches and sugars and then you also have complex carbs with polysaccharides such as pasta. I would recommend at least 1 serving of pasta a day, maybe 2 and also occasional pasta dinners the night before a meet or whenever your family may have pasta for dinner. As for his protein there are a lot of options. Fish is a great source of protein but if he's a picky eater you can also just use regular meat. I would highly persuade you not to give him protein shakes because these could overload his body while he is growing. An occasional one might not hurt but don't make them part of his regular daily diet.
