Making a swimming pool level?
Can anyone tell me the fastest and easiest way to level out a spot to put our pool??! It's one of those round blue pools from wal-mart that rises as it fills up. Is it really necessary to have a completly level place to put it? Our back yard is so hilly/slopey.

It's not 100% required, but it's the best way to do it. Otherwise you run the risk of the water pushing to one side and actually making part of the wall the floor of the pool. You can level it out easily by the addition of play sand (50lb bag at hardware or home improvement stores for cheap). Dump the sand in the circumference of the pool then use a long 2x4 that is flat to smooth it out. Place a level on top of the 2x4 and drag it along scooping sand into low spots or pulling it out of high spots. This process is called "screeing" and is commonly used for leveling all sorts of things from concrete to base layers of fill under driveways, etc.
Once the weight of the pool is on the sand it will be very solid and resist movement. When the season is over and you take down the pool you can either remove the sand and go for a more permanent leveling system (spading out the grass and shovel leveling the area then backfilling with sand and repeating the screeing process) or leave it as is.
It would be best to use landscape edging to create the area you fill with sand as this will help keep it contained and stop it from shifting out from under the pool. Plus the tops of the edging can be used to help scree the sand level.
