Remember that when you reach the halfway point (give or take!) that's where all the crap floats about as the water tends to be calm at that point. Make sure you don't swallow any of it! - and YES, I AM serious ! ! !There's actually a ferry that goes that route, that's the best tip I can give you.
It will save you a lot of time.
Is scuba diving as fun as it looks?
Goose fat to keep out the cold. YES I am being serious..Smear it all over your body!Don't drown!! No but seriously, train hard - 21 miles swimming is pretty hard work! And yes as the previous answer says smear fat over your body - it helps to keep the body warm. Pace yourself too. Don't use all your energy up at once!
Who is the best swimmer in the world?
make sure u drownStart training your breathing patterns, if you have a good rythm of breathing you wont get as tired
backstroke - a lot less knackering

Run a lot before this starting after you read this. Run for 2 1/2 miles every other day and work your way up. Swim every other day that you dont run. Eat healthy and get monthly physicals.Have an endurence test too.
What's your fave event and what's your time?
Get a chase boat. all the cool swimmers have them now. What is the closest someone with mild epilepsy can get to being a swimmer for the guard?
You might need a specially made swim suit to keep out the cold, not just any old fastskin but probably a specially-insulated suit as well. Also, about a couple of months before you go you should probably spend at least 2 nights a week sleeping outdoors in a tent with only a light blanket. If this works, it'll immensely help you get used to the cold and develop psychological stamina for getting through the cold. The last thing I have for you: treat the whole thing like a giant game. You can pretend that someone's swimming ahead of you and they're trying to make you catch up to them. Or, the best thing I'd recommend is get people to donate money to a charity for, say, every 20 meters you swim. While you're swimming you can think "That's another $10 for (the charity)..." and just count it like that. Knowing that you're doing something for the community is probably one of the best things you can do to get yourself through the swim.
