You could be just the thing that they mistake for being a good candidate. The #1 problem for most people is that they swim on the surface, and to the creatures of the sea, if it is on the surface, then it is wounded, and fair game. Keep your activities to the daylight hours. While that isn't much defense either, it is still better than at night.

There is also a greater risk of hitting a rock, as you can not see them. It is still possible that sharks would be around even after dusk, again, you would not be able to see them!
