Does swimming make you gain weight?
has anybody heard that hard swimming makes you gain weight? because the water is cold and makes you body produce more fat in order to insulate yourself? not easy swimming but strenuous, competitive swimming for long periods of time. please explain your answers and opinions! thank you!

No, not at all.Swimming is one of the best exercises, whether it be for pleasure or competitive.
Swimming, utilises all of your muscles. Keeps you in tone and most of all, healthy.

NO, if you do gain weight from swimming its not from fat, it would be from muscle if anything, when you strain your body of heat and it gets cold it doesn't make fat, it burns fat to keep you warm.

Well as far as I know, if you do it enough and often, it should surely be the opposite. The only thing you would really be gaining is muscle, which adds on to your intial weight, but not actual fat. The muscle might make certain parts look larger (like thighs or arms), but that's about it.Where can i get good swimming costume?
Most swimmers I know are thin and muscular. What you said may be true , but perhaps it happens when the swimmer gets older? And swims far less times than in their younger days.If you are swimming in cold waters, use a wet suit or a dry suit to insulate your body.

NO ITS THE CONTRARYDon't worry... swimming will not make u gain weight. I lost from 56kg to 48kg in 9 mths time. I swam everyday then and for long hrs too.. like 3-4 hrs each time. It also depends on what stroke u're swimming. Butterfly helps u to tone up your shoulders,bisep n trisep, Breast stroke will form slightly bigger thighs (hear-say :D) and front crawl (freestyle) will in return give u a more slender body shape.. Well, no harm trying.. nowadays, I only stick to front crawl.
I've Done Competive swimming for years i started out doing it for a regular team then when i got old enough to join my school swim team i switched. If anything it help me keep in shape, not gain weight the water is cold so that we go faster.

Hey!! As a lifeguard I don't think swimming makes u gain weight. I'm in a competitive swim team and if u are gaining weight is due to the amount of muscle u are building up. Muscle is heavier than fat so that's where the gaining weight comes in from and if u do gain weight it's a few pounds like 1 to 3 not a lot. The water temperature does not have to do anything with gaining weight whatsoever. Hope I answered ur question=)no i was told that you will loose a couple of lbs when you first start swimming and then start gaining some lbs but the lbs will be muscle. if you eat healthier like eat a salad for lunch w/ a apple and you wont gain any weight. and try to do 60 minuters of swimming or other excercise and you won't gain any weight
