What is the difference between a local community swimming pool and the YMCA? Are the classes as good?

I have a choice of joining the YMCA or going to the local community rec. center to take swim lessons. They both cost about the same. Which is better? Will I receive a good experience in the public pool?

Does swimming laps help build bicep muscles or its weight-lifting alot better?

The YMCA offers more than just a swim experience. Membership includes gym use, classes, etc. That's really the only advantage the Y has over community pools. The instructors vary based on experience and certification level. I would seek instructors with Red Cross certification in WSI or swim instruction paired with experience. A teenager who just got a WSI cert won't be as good as a woman who's been teaching for ten years so keep that in mind.

Check out both options fully and choose which will best fit your schedule, needs and objectives.

Good luck!

Is skin diving and free diving the same?

Dunno but you'll DEFINITELY receive a good experience at the YMCA! :-/

How do i float?

the YMCA has the Village People hanging out in the men's locker rooms with the other ambiguous charcters in there

What swimming stroke is your favorite?

both are good but the YMCA if you join also offer other types of classes so you will get more for your money.
