Why are our eyes hot and red after swimming ?
Answers:
Back inflation BCD or Jacket style??
Actually, all of the answers above are not quite right. There are several chemicals in a pool that must be in proper balance and chlorine is just one of the possibilities. While it's true that chlorine in the water may burn your eyes, more than likely it is because there has not been -enough- chlorine in the pool, not because there is too much. When there is not enough chlorine, you get an abundance of something called chloramine which is the result of a chlorine molecule interacting with other substances in the air and water. The chloramine will affect your eyes much more severly than plain chlorine.
Also, what is more likely the cause is because the pool pH may be incorrect. When the pH is too high (i.e. too acidic) your eyes will burn much more readily.
Another cause is that the water may be too hard or contain too many minerals. Sometimes you can see this even out of a pool if the water supply to your house has very hard water. If you place your eyes under the water in the bathtub for a short while they will also burn.
Also, in the past couple years a lot of pools have switched from using chlorine to using bromine or ozone because of the dangers of storing chlorine. Even with this process where there is no chlorine, you will feel your eyes burn if the chemical balance is not proper which "proves" that it really is not only the chlorine that is causing the problems.

Well, I'm assuming you mean after swimming in a Pool. and the answer for this is there is a lot more chlorine put into swimming pools than in a lake. That chlorine is a chemicle that KILLS a LOT of bacteria. When it's in your eye, it's killing all that built up bacteria, and that burning feeling makes your eyes feel kind of hot. They get read, because all of the chlorine is actually iritating the eye, and that's the eyes natural reaction to it.I guess swimming for 15 years of my life proved for something!
