Who surfs? If you do can you give me some tips?
Yes. Louganis was actually trying to do a reverse pike (a little nicer than most "gainer" dives). Note that he was not the first to try this, but his gaffe certainly made it famous. I have no idea who started this, and I think it's a little disrespectful, but that is where it came from. What do you like to do when you swim?
no not sure who its named after but i did them when i was young and i'm alot older than greg lougainusScuba divers: What is your favorite place to scuba and why?
Yes I do believe it is. Also I believe it was his signature dive where Greg hurt himself. How do you level a swimming pool.?
The "gainer" has been around forever, but that is not its correct name. The correct name is a reverse. A reverse dive is called a 1/2 gainer, a reverse somersault is called a gainer. In serious competitive diving, divers are now doing reverse 2/1/2s and reverse 3/1/2s, depending on the board or platform. I'm older than Greg and dove competitively in high school and college ( Division 1). When I was learning to dive as an eight year old kid, we called it a gainer- Greg would have been two at the time--so it clearly was not name after Greg. It was only when I started diving competitively at 10 did I realize that it was really called a reverse.
