How much do lane ropes cost?
1 25 yard lane rope, what would I expect in terms of pricing.

Which college has the better swim team? University of Louisville or Florida State University?
What kind? Metal or Rope? Buoys on the line? Plastic discs on the line? You need to be more specific.
Rope lane ropes can be made from rope picked up at a hardware store and buoys purchased from a pool store. Rope: $50 I would think- for really good rope. Buoys: probably about $10-$20 bucks per buoy (the little blue/white ovalish things).
Metal lane ropes are more expensive as they are tailor made for the pool individually, dependent on the specs the pool provides. Those run anywhere from $500 and up. I know the ones at the pool I work at cost $900-$1000 bucks each.
As for what they do- lane ropes are either put in to reduce waves between swimmers, providing an easier swim for your patrons; or are put in to separate your pool into sections.
Which does what better?
Rope lane ropes section off a pool nicely, but provide little in terms of a wave barrier. However, they are lighter, something that is nice for the staff that has to remove and put them in every day. Putting in or taking out knots in the rope can vary the length of the lane ropes easily as well, so they are versatile.
Metal lane ropes do a great job in reducing waves between lanes, and can be made to fit different lengths- so they can section off pools. However, making them to different specs is costly, and the ropes themselves are heavy.
At the end of the day, you have to look at what suits your needs best.
Hope this helps!
