I am 38 years? Is it too late for me to learn Swimming? I am unable to float, kick & hold breath for 5 meters
I joined swimming class 7 days back. Our group contains kids from 7 years. I am the oldest, 38 years. Except me, all the others have successfully learnt the trick of holding breath, floating and kicking and swimming the length of the pool (length of 10 Meters). I manage only about 4 to 5 meters before I surface. Now I have doubts about my physical strength and learning techniques. Is 38 years too late to learn swimming? Is it possible for me to learn swimming. I can only add that I have the patience and willingness to learn, even if takes me months to learn swimming.

Your never to old to learn a new skill, keep at it and good luck :o)I would discuss it privately with the instructor. And perhaps if you have a breathing deficiency you should ask your doctor.

Cudos to you for challenging yourself to learn something new!Swimming is not only fun and provides a great way to socialize with others but it is a necessary life skill. It can save your life and help you save the people you love.
If you haven't been a swimmer for 38 years - you have probably developed some fear of water - whether you know it or not. That will make learning to swim more difficult for you than for young children - who have no fear at all.
The more you practice and work at it - the stronger you'll get but the important thing is not to give up. And relax - enjoy the experience - especially knowing that you are continuing to grow in the process.
I learned to ski last year at 50. At 38 you're still a kid with lots of years around the pool or at the beach ahead of you.!

Between dives our customers have time to snorkel and free dive. My customers are mainly Japanese. On the average, Japanese people your age, without training, can free dive about the depth you go (4~5 meters). Breath holding is a skill and YOU WILL GET BETTER AS YOU PRACTICE.
I myself am getting back into aggressive inline skating. I am 47 years old and haven't done it in 7 yrs. I'm just taking it slow and relearning my tricks. I'M OLDER NOW SO I'M TAKING IT SLOW AND CHECKING MY LIMITS. I may not achieve the skill I once had but I'd like to try.
Just do it at your own pace. Keep a journal or record of your accomplishments. I know you have the spirit to do this. Just follow through.
In the mean time I will be falling down a lot to achieve my goals in aggressive skating again...now where did I put those band-aids?
