Is this the new death drill?
Question:for a 13-14 age group that practices 5-6 times a week all-year-around is this what is considered the new death drill (in my opinion):
***this is at the end of a hour and a half practice (last 15 min.)***
16 25's (yd)
:30 cycle
w/ flippers
over-unders (fly half way then underwater the rest of the way)
sets of 4: 1-3 is butterfly halfway then underwater
4: freestyle no breathe
then at the end of practice we have to do a 100 warmdown w/ the final lap completly underwater w/ no breathe
what do ya think?

Welcome to swimming.our coach Patty is 'brutal' 1st hr 500 meter swim, with 4 different strokes (your choice), then 4 sets 0f 50 meter swim (25 meter over, 25 meter under) then a short warmdown, then the final 200 meters of your best 2 strokes, again 25 meter over then 25 meter under. What is really tough is the last 50 meters, and of course the last 25 meter under. But I will admit this, our endurance especially mine is incredible. Just stay with it, and practice, practice etc.BDC or Dive Computer Or Regulator Or New Mask+Fins+snorkel??
haha wow! sounds pretty intense but at least you'll benefit bigggg time...for me its pre-season and we only have hour long practices with pretty simple stuff...sounds deadly to me! don't worry though, you're body will adjust and adapt and you'll do just fine =] hope that helpsWho is/was the first person to swim around the world?
Having been in the same situation before, I do not look at this as "deadly". It requires quite a bit of endurance, sure, which I hope a year-round swimmer has. The only part I thought might be difficult even for a swimmer with a significant amount of endurance is the last no-breather lap. Other than that, it should be manageable. The flippers make it easier. I do not understand the repetition, though. I would ask your coach(es) what they are aiming for with this drill. It can't hurt to ask.Good luck. Hope this helped.
Where can i find a website about amusment water parks?
The warmdown which stresses your lungs sounds counterintuitive but it sounds pretty suck.Is there such a thing as allergy to swimming pool chlorine?
that seems kinda hard. my team is a little too easy and everyone around me always skips like full 400's and i dont want to look stupid so i go along with it =P but i do argue about it... id rather do that than what my team has, its too easy. yea that does sound hardwe've done sets like that, except the underwater is first, then fly the rest of the way with 1 breath (not counting the one you take when you come up after halfway). They're tough, but sets like that are really good to work on breath control. The warmdown doesn't really make sense to me... it kind of defeats the point of a warmdown.
Scuba diving + period = shark bait?
that's not bad at all.The worst death set I've experienced was 200 x 25 (yes, 200 of them) alternating between fly and tarzan on the :30.
What should my screen name be?
yah thats not even bad at all. welcome to swimming!! your gonna be doing harder things in the future.Anybody installed an inground pool kit in new jersey?how hard was it?
I would think if you practice 5-6 times per week that this set would be cake, especially with flippers. You might want to go ahead and quit now if that is a tough set for you. Just wait till the day coach tells you to do 25 - 200m butterfly (PS: with 1 - 50m being freestyle each time). You will beg for your set above. Or the day coach tells you everyone to swim 5000 yards and if you stop for any reason, even if you get water in your googles then you have to finish all of it butterfly. Or when you have to do 20 - 100 yards on 1:15 (NO flippers). Flippers are if you are training to be a Navy Seal or go snorkeling.More Questions & Answers...
