How do I improve endurance in butterfly?

trying to finish 50metres in 25metres pool, I feel ok on the first half, and then struggling to finish the second half,I feel I lose momentum, energy after the turn , is it possible that I use too much energy for the turn? Air becomes somewhat more precious in the final half. I breath every stroke, mimicking michael phelps' style closely. Also does butterfly with swimming paddles help improve endurance? I hear about swimming paddles isn't good for swimming technique. thanks for the advice.

My grandad used to say wear your swimming goggles tight and you'll end up like a chinky is this true??

Dont try to mimic Phelps because chances are you dont have the talent he has, and can't pull off some of the things he does.. breathing every stroke is only helpful if you are so good at keeping your hips moving and not lifting your head to breath more than your chin.

The key to your endurance is working on your technique, watch some videos and try to mimic the underwater pull before you mimic the breathing. Breathing everyother stroke should help you get into a rythm and keep more of your momentum, the turn shouldnt take much energy, what should take energy is your push off where you should try to kick as hard as you can.

Things you need to work on:
- underwater stroke ( to move faster )
- breath control ( to last longer, in the same rythm )
- kicking ( combined with breath control for great pushoffs)

What to wear at a pool? Help please.?

Keep practicing especially on the turns. Try swimming longer distances to build stamina. Conserve energy for 2nd half burst.

Swimming, Jacuzi & Sauna; in what order, for how long and why?

Try using a kickboard to strengthen ur abs and get better endurance. also breathing less often reserves energy

WHY DO people think swimming isnt a sport?

i HATED butterfly cause i was bad at it, but this year, my coach made me swim the 200 IM like five times and the 100 fly about 5 times too so i had to get used to it fast. i always dread it.

but anyway, i just swam ten 100 fly's with about 10 seconds rest in between. that will help your endurance. (then again, i already have good endurance, i'm a 500 swimmer...unfortunately) and work on holding your breath and breathing every other stroke. it will really help out.

also, if you think your turn is the problem, i doubt it really is. turns help you more than anything. just ask someone to watch the form on your turn to make sure you're doing it the most efficient way. and just remember, swimming is all about pushing yourself, holding your breath a little bit longer than you thought you could, and never think "i dont think i'll make it" because that just makes you freak out! haha

Girls only! Your only choice is G-String Bikini or Thongs at the Pool?

there are a few ways to stay strong and drop time in a 50 fly. One is..streamline long off of your block( streamline is the fastest part of swiming) and off of your turn. Second keep your chin low... if you lift your head up once you get tired you are using even more energy. Last. REACH the less strokes you take the longer it will take for you to becom tired

Whats the diffrence between board shorts and trunks? is is there not one?

keep swimmin it

Do you think Laure Manadou is taking performance enhancement drugs?

work on your abs so it will be easier and work on your turns and make sure you do at least 6 dolpin kicks before you come up and make sure you push of the wall as hard as you can because you want to the least amount of fly possible (it helped me) my splits used to be a 27.9 and 40 now its 27 and 33

I'm preparing a 1km swimming race in the ocean in 20 days. Any raccomandation for training program? Any tips?

dun lift your head too high to breathe. instead, what i do is to turn to the side to breathe. this way, you wun waste too much energy lifting yourself up to breathe, but you can use the energy to move forward.

How To Perfect Your Backstroke?

Really increase your upper body muscle mass. Lift light weights, do pushups, and do other exercises that will strengthen your arms. Work your abs a little too and do some cross training, like running a couple times a week.

Is there anyway to remove the "yellowing" on silicone SCUBA masks and make them clear again?

that's what i swim. I just keep working on it but i don't breath every stroke, i breath maybe every 3. Turns are my biggest downfall. Also idk, but work on getting hip out of the water that way you're not using too much of your upper body strength. Use kick boards and work really hard on your abs...also, if you feel ur losing momentum after the turn try kicking less or not as hard so your more like swirming thu the water comapred to wasting energy on your dolphin kick. Hope some of it helps!

Who is on a swim team here?

You should be practicing for butterfly by swimming longer distances in practice. If you work out doing 100 meter repeats, you should feel like a 50 is a breeze.

Also, if you are going to use kicking as a method of practice, DO NOT use a kickboard for butterfly kick. When you use a kickboard for fly, you don't get the full range of motion needed to do the kick properly. Instead, you should kick underwater in streamline position coming up for air, or kick on your back with your handfs at your sides. Underwater will help more with your stamina than on your back.

When you are practicing, and when you are racing, you should religiously breathe every other stroke. This will help you to build stamina, which is needed to finish strong, but it also conserves energy. Michael Phelps can afford to breathe every stroke, he is an olympic level athlete, but doing so uses more energy than skipping every other breath.

Using paddles for fly practice can be tricky. If not done properly, it can cause shoulder injury and can mess up your technique.

Butterfly is a very tough stroke that takes a lot of dedication and practice to master. Good luck achieving your goals.

Hi, I'm a novice diver, I'd like to buy my own gear?

How can i increase my swim speed?

Im no swimming coach but a Pool player but to my knowledge i think you need to train harder to increase your stamina.Once you have the stamina everything is much easier also preserving energy n not going out full pace the first lap also helps.I think you need to get your timing right in how many laps u intended to do. I think that is very crucial.
