No one can tell exactly how many calories you burn but general rule is used :
each 2.5 meter burn 1 calorie ( endurance and long distance swimming at moderate speed where your workout is 55-70% of your maximum heart rate )
each 1 meter swimming Burns 1 calorie ( in fast swimming where your workout produce more than 80 % of your maximum heart rate)
Maximum heart rate = 220 - your age
In burning calories its not only important how much you burn but what you burn ! If you want your workout to target fat burning you should keep you heart rate from 55-70% of your maximum heart rate , otherwise as in fast swimming your body will use creatine and carbohydrates and not fat !
Best way to get to 100 laps is to build your endurance slowly like you are doing 40 - 50 laps this week try o get to 70-80 next week and so on ! Important thing you should work on during this period is your breathing as you should improve your inhale and exhale technique so you get enough oxygen to your muscles
Good luck friend !
Do you get less sun when your are in the water? compared to to just sittin outside?
Hi,2 miles is approximately 120 25M laps. The amount of calories you burn will depend on the energy you put into the swimming, so that's an even less exact science.
Good luck with your hoped for weight loss-you are going about it the right way.

What's the qualification to become a personal trainer in swimming?
2 miles = 128 laps (1600m = 1 mile)4 miles = 256 laps (and by lap I mean 1 time down the pool)
swimming is one of the best sports for burning calories, because it uses pretty much all of your muscle groups. Depending on how intensely you swim will depend how many calories you burn. Keep your heart rate in the 140-160 range to get the most out of your workout. Try doing like 3 laps moderate then 1 lap fast, or some variation of interval training like that.
Also, if you eat about 500 less calories than you need a day, you will lose about 2 pounds in a week.
Swimming classifications all around the world! Let's do it!?
When swimming you loose about 3.8 calories per lap. This means you should swim about 263 laps to burn that 1000 calories you are looking for.Can you scuba dive any where in las vegas?
basically,if you want to get into shape and have some fun doing it.
i've heard that swimming an hour during practice you burn about 1200 calories
a practice consists of a
warm up 300(12 laps)or 500(20 laps) meters moderate pace (work on technique)
9 50's(up and back) kicking hold your hands in streamline (above head. upper arm to ears. one hand on the other. dont lace fingers!)
switch up your kicks.
ex. 3 50's freestyle kick(flutter), 3 50's breastroke, 3 50's butterfly kick(like a mermaid feet together)
8 50's pull. (keep feet together, crossed is okay). 2 50's of each stroke. (substitute butterfly for freestyle if you dont know how)
then comes the hard part the main set
50(2 laps)- free 75%
100(4laps)- another stroke 100%
100- free 75%
100- another stroke100%
150(6 laps)- freestyle 75%
100- another stroke 100%
200 (8 laps)- freestyle 75%
100- another stroke 100%
250(10 laps)- freestyle 75%
100 another stroke 100%
then a 50(2 laps) easy. walk up and down the pool if you must. get your heart rate down.
10 minutes swim- take it moderate. dont go too fast or you wont be able to finish it but push yourself and try not to rest at the walls. should swim atleast a 400(16 laps)hundred
this can up up to 2,500 to 3,100 meters/yards
its a little less than 2 miles. but its a good work out.
if you want more of a workout. but the main set on an interval (time limit) if your fifty at full speed takes you about 40 seconds. make the interval 50. (you wont be going full speed) for every fifty more add 5-10 seconds to the interval. so if you swim a 100 your interval should be 1 minute and 45- 1 minute and 50 seconds.
good luck!
