Most of my dreams relate to swimming in shark infested waters and a huge wave coming down on me.?

Just being in the water can act as calorie burner for anyone.

I'm a competitive swimmer of just over a year now and I can also feel my heart-rate going pretty fast after I come back from doing some laps in practice. Your limbs also burn calories as they move through the water and your core body temperature goes up as well when you swim from the pure body heat you're giving off from burning those calories (remember calories are actually energy, one calorie is how much energy you need to heat one square centimeter of water by one degree Celcius).

Almost anyone who joins a swim team sees results in their physical attributes over a month or so. The results are generally slow but they're definitely there. If your girlfriend does decide to join the team then I'd say take some before-and-after pictures (like for the weight training machines on TV) of her to boost her confidence if you see some good results from her decision. Show her the pictures as well and she'll realize how good of a weightlosser it can be.

What's better to use: aquatic gloves or the regular hard paddle?

I believe swimming is very good for weight loss. Maybe you should try that.

What muscle groups does the breast stroke workout?

being on the swim team itself is a weight loss program! running, lifting weights (to tone the muscles/become leaner), abdominal stuff, etc. will all help boost her confidence.

How many meters are there in one lap?

Because of how swimmers are built, people assume it's great for weight loss. This is not true. It is AMAZING for toning your body, and strengthening your heart, but because you are not constantly taking in oxygen, it is not good for burning fat. Competitive swimmers burn off so many calories, that they stay lean, but if you are looking for a way to burn fat and lost weight as pure exercise, you have to put cardio work in (you can do swimming to tone etc...).

Just so swimmers don't think I'm slamming their sport, I was/am a swimmer. It is GREAT exercise, it is just not physiologically good for BURNING FAT/LOSING WEIGHT (on its own).

When I was little, I used to go to a community pool, and the directors would tell us not to pee in the pool...

anyone can be fast in the water, no matter their weight as long as they work hard. weight loss will come with swimming on the team

Good and cheap places to go scuba diving?

No one is too fat to swim. Swimmers like me do exercises like biking, running and situps. In biking you can go up to however many miles you want to bike. (i suggest stationary biking) running, do no more than 3-4 miles a day. Situps, do lots and lots and lots of them, say 1,000 a day. Have fun!

Surf Board?

SWIM !!!!!!!!!!...

It doesn't matter if she is fat, she can join the swimteam. She should train doing some cardio exercise so she gets in better conditions for the swimming team.
