How do I teach swim lessons?
I am a lifeguard, but where I work all the life guards are mandated to teach swim lessons. Obviously I can swim, but I have no idea where to begin to teach little kids how to swim. My bosses know this, however I have to do it anyway. I know there are little skill sheets provided by the Red Cross I can read before I start my class, but I'm still pretty clueless. Aside from going into work early to watch other classes and reading the skill sheets, what can I do?

Why is it that we are not allowed to eat much and drink beers when swimming?
Go to the YMCA and watch them. Get ready to use ALL of your patience. How to increase speed in breaststroke?
umm i know what you meanwell if your a lifegaurd you obusily know free back breast and maybe fly but on those sheets they have stupid little names like approach stroke or front crawl (thts freestyle) back crawl (back stroke) frog kick (breast stroke kick) ive found it eaiser to show the kids how to move the arms and breathe and then show them the kick
then after they see what there doing practice the arms but just standing up then after they master tht part hang on to the wall and show them how to kick and you walk up and see each kids kick and help them if they need it by moving there legs the right way
and if you have a 1 hour lesson let them play the last 15 minutes of class (like make up games on what you did tht day that way its eaiser for them to remeber what they learned and you dont have to teach them over and over again)
hope it works and if you need any more help email me
My friend thinks she is better then me at swimming.well i dont think she is that good.what do i do?
The American Red Cross offers Water Safety Instruction (WSI) course. This is for anyone who is interested in teaching swimming. When I teach, I usually start with seeing if they are comfortable with the water, if they can put their face in the water and blow bubbles, can they blow bubbles and kick with a Kick Board, are they comfortable on their back as well as their front. can they swim with arms and legs (heads up and face in the water)? then go from there and work on stroke technique.
