When you do a flip turn, is it a back or front flip?
I tried a front flip and I got all messed up. So am I supposed to do a back flip? If so, how do I improve it and make myself go faster during the actual flip?

Both my daughters swim and everyone on their swim team does a front flip. I've never seen anyone do a back flip, even on a backstroke leg - they flip over on their front a stroke before reaching the wall, then do a front flip. How to improve? Three things: practice, practice and practice.
Good luck.

My daughter swims, and it is a front flip. The way the flip was explained to her was a somersault- but with some serious ooomph behind it- then a push off the pool wall with her legs. Try to keep your body small during the flip turn- you will get thru the water faster. Good luck, and practice is the key to it.Is it safe to let my python swim in tap water?
If you are doing backstroke then you flip do your stomach and still do a front flip. When you are doing freestyle, you still do a front flip. To help make you go faster, just stand in the 4 ft. end of the pool and practice doing flips. (all the way around until you get to your feet) As your keep practicing this, you will get faster and faster. Try flips from starting at half of the pool and then swim into the wall and flip. ok, you're supposed to do a front flip on a freestlye flipturn. On backstroke, a bit after the flags you are allowed to turn onto your stomache and take one stroke of freestyle then flip. When coming into the wall, take a deep breath to the side the use your momentum and tuck your body into a ball, push off the wall, then continue swimming. Most of the turns you do will be front flips. A very few swimmers use the back flip when they are doing backstroke -- it's actually a back somersault in the water that you do before you hit the wall, and if you time it right, your feet will just be at the wall with your knees bent so you can push off before your dolphin kick away from the wall. But it is very difficult to do and even more difficult to do well, so most swimmers on backstroke laps do a rollover just before the wall, then do a front flip.On the freestyle, you also do a front flip but you have to put twist into it to get face down as you leave the wall.
Only way to improve on this is to do it over and over and over. Then do it some more.
