How much should I spend on snorkel gear?
I want to give a gift certificate for snorkel gear (mask, fins, and snorkel) to my boyfriend for christmas. I don't want to spend TOO much, but I would like to get him some decent stuff. He only snorkels now occassionally, but is planning on starting scuba this summer. Would $100 be enough? $150?

You can do the Wal Mart special at 25 bucks or the sky is the limit.Typically, an excellent snorkel sells for 45 bucks, a good mask for 90 bucks and nice fins around 90 bucks as well.

Give him the most you can afford, but price isn't everything it is the fit of the mask as well. If he wants to dive then make sure he tries the masks on first and finds one that fits perfectly. Forget about the $25 junk, because that is all that it is. The $150 will be a great start for the gear. The fins and the mask should be top quality, but don't go crazy on the snorkle. I never use mine diving, unless I am in rough water. So yes, $150 will get a good an average set of gear.
