I have very bad eyes, can I wear contact lenses when I am swimming?? I will have my goggles on also... Are there any disadvantages when using contact lenses in the water?

a lot of people i talk to always ask me how i can wear contacts swimming as much as i do. it's not a big deal. if you get chlorine in your eyes, obviously it's going to burn. it can make your eyes a bit irritated but it goes away just like it would if you weren't wearing lenses. i just don't open my eyes underwated (which i didn't do even before i got contacts). goggles are great for that, especially if you swim competitively or on a team. the only real disadvantage is that if you get chlorine in your eyes it will burn a little bit longer (like a minute longer) than if you didn't have them in. try and keep eye drops on you at all time. one drop in each eye and the burn will go right away. other than that i have not had any trouble with them!not for swimming your eyes will get irritated trust me i know

You may lose your contacts in water. While swimming, if you open your eyes the contacts will just float out. My boyfriend swims in his contacts but of course he can't see. If you get the chlorinated water in your eyes, the chlorine will dry your contacts out and possibly make them fall out and be hard to put back in. But talk to your eyedoctor and see if they make a brand specifically for swimmers.I've done it. It can be easy to lose them that way, but if you have on goggles I don't see why it would matter.

Not sure you can wear normal contact lenses for swimming. But you can get all wear contact lenses that you wear for a month at a time, I think you can wear those in the pool. Depends on the type of contacts and the way they fit your eye. Most doctors will tell you not to, but they are just being overly careful. Most people can swim with contacts in , but you have to be very careful not to get water in your eyes, as the chemicals could stink you. You have to be even more careful to have your eyes closed when you jump or dive in,as the contact could become dislodged. I have worn contacts for about 15 years and swam probably 500 times with them in, and never had a problem. Ironically the only problem I ever had was in the shower when I rubbed my eyes too hard and one the contacts came out. The bottom line is that more then likely you can swin with them in, just be careful and keep your eyes closed alot.How long does it take to get a divers license.?
I'm sure you can wear them underneath your goggles. This way you can see clearly when you swim. In the past I have worn my contacts while sparring in karate cause otherwise my glasses would be in the way.Am I jerk for thinking American athletles didn't really make an effort?
there are disadvantages with contact lenses in the pool. if suddenly your goggles fill up with water, it can brush your contacts out from your eyes. you can lose them basically. if your eyes are very bad, then make sure you're goggles are on tight and when water comes through the goggles, close your eyes.Its 80 degrees. alright to swim in the ocean?
