Well, and this is not a guess, 65 lengths of a regular (25 m) pool is almost exactly a mile (65 lengs = 5281 ft). So, if you want exact, it's 32.5 times across a 50 m (olympic size) pool or 16 laps (across and back) will be about a mile (about 25 meters shy).

A lap - down and back - in a 50 meter pool (Olympics are held in a 50 meter pool) is 100 meters. The "mile" race that swimmers swim in the Olympics is 1500 meters - so that's down and back 15 times. An actual mile is slightly longer than this, closer to down and back 16 times.
