Are there any swimming pools in the uk which don't use chlorine?

Answers:

So im shopping for a wetsuit.?

Sure. There are four other types of santizing systems in use, globally.
1/ Salt water generators. They're going into about 40% of all new pools now. They aren't non chlorine in the strictest sense, but are lower in chlorine content in the pool itself. They take normal salt and convert it into chlorine electrically. Most of the sanitizing is done in the pool plumbing, before the water even gets back to the pool. That's one of the reasons their chlorine content is lower. Chlorine itself is a type of salt.

2/ Bromine: A common, but expensive sanitizer that is also a type of salt. Bromide ions, in this case, do the oxidation with little to no gassing off of the resultant material. Most hot tubs use this in some form because of that reason. It's easier on the eyeballs (gas wise) and does a better job than chlorine at high temeratures.

3/ Ozone generators: These inject O3, as a gas into the plumbing system as an oxident, killing off the nasties. The resultant gas after oxidation is plain old O2.

4/ Silver oxide: Not as common anymore, and not effective against some organisms. It realeases silver oxide into the pool water from an electrical reaction between an electrode and an anode.

The sanitizing power of all four differ. From most effective to least:in an average pool environment either residential or commercial:
1/ Salt water generator
2/ Bromine
3/ Ozone
4/ Silver Oxide

Raw chlorine is still the way to go for effective sanitizing power, be it delivered in gaseous, solid or a change of state.

Edit: Lol..it seems someone doesn't like the truth, judging by the thumbs down.

Can we hear sounds better in water than in air.?

to my knowledge simple answer will be NO due to the risk of infection with so many people using the pool and all those that pee in the pool needs to be cleaned away

Has anyone tried the Total Immersion Method ? Is it hard to pick up ? Does it work ?

I don't think so ...its a hygene thing !

Why do lifsavers swimmers ride up their bums, is it on pupose or does it just happen?

I would hope not. Wouldn't fancy a mouthful of kids pee in my mouth.. well actually that is why I don't go in public pools at all. Chlorine or no chlorine public pools are filthy.

Will a swim cap help keep water out of my ears when I swim?

no

Wearing boxers while swimming?

Yes. The Green Health Club in Kent has an ion-exchange pool that uses the chloride part of salt (sodium chloride) to ensure the water stays clean. This is not the same as pools that use free chlorination agents as is the case with most pools.

Can one learn swimming in one go?

yes but there are only private ones

Bubbling style in swimming?

I believe Holmes Place pools do not use chlorine - certainly their Nottingham club does not. They do use something else - not sure what, may well be something mentioned above - and having been in there it is frankly a lot more pleasant than the indoor chlorinated pools I have experienced. I swear some places just continually add more chlorine rather than actually cleaning the pools!

When swimming, which stroke is the best for getting into shape?

I don't think so to be honest. Even if there were, I would not advise swimming in the water anyway, due to the obvious hygiene implications. I'd rather have wrinkly skin and stinging eyes than dysentry, typhoid or stomach infections !.
