Why is 100m swim strokes not allowed in 9 year olds?

Probably because of Safety- afterall- 100m is quite a fair distance to expect a 9 year old to do, and people dont want to take the blame jut incase something bad happens. Sure- some 9 year olds could do it, but its way safer to not let them.Eh? Now that you mentioned that... I never really notice about it although I have been to many competition before... (that's embarrassing) But based on my personal experience, 100m for young children can be tedious and tiring. Perhaps due to their lack of endurance power and strength. Furthermore, it might lead to sprain if the muscle is overwork.

I was state champion in swimming one year in a 200m event. This was at the age of 17. At the age of 6 (when I started swimming), no way in HELL could I have completed a race of 100 meters. Not until age 11 or so did I start doing those lengths. I'd be tuckered out after a 50m at age 9.Ok heres a real answer. It depends what type of swimming your in. If you do summer league they do not let you do any INDIVIDUAL race over 100m.(or yards) If you do USA swimming or USS (bith the same) then thats a different story, they have 9 year old their swimming crazy stuff like the mile and the 200 fly. so really all it comes down to is what kind of team your on like a summer league or a hardcore team :)
At an age group meet just a couple of weeks ago there were two young girls from a local swimming club aged 5 and 6 who did the 100 metres medley. It took them 3-4 minutes to do. One little girl was so upset afterwards.
As a parent of a swimmer I would never have allowed my child to swim this distance at that age.
It could probably have caused them more harm than good. their bones and muscles have not set correctly.

we went over this at the USA Swimming convention this year at Dearborn, MI. they are allowed to swim the race if the host team allows it. there is nothing saying you can't. but no offense or anything, but it takes the little kids too long to swim it so they decide to not include it in the meet so the meet won't take so long. if you had a fast nine year old, your coach could sign you up for a time trial.More Questions & Answers...
