Rescue Swimming in San Francisco?
Question:Where can I go in the San Francisco Bay Area to learn how to do rescue swimming, i.e., help a friend if he/she is having trouble swimming? I don't want to learn how to be a lifeguard or anything, just a basic course (1 day or half day would be ideal) for someone who already knows how to swim and is in good shape.
Thanks!

Do you think swimming in public chlorinated pools is completely healthy?
All you need to know is NEVER LET A DROWNING PERSON TOUCH YOU. That's why lifeguards have those long orange rescue tubes to shove at a drowning person. They used to train lifeguards to grab drowning people from behind, but they ended up with a lot of dead lifeguards that way.By the way, drowning is much more common than most people realize. A swimming pool is many times more likely to kill a child than a gun in the house, and even good swimmers drown. There's no way to ask them why.
Are there any exersises to help you hold your breath longer?
i have been a lifeguard, swim instructor, cpr instructor for like 5/6 yrs now, and never heard of such a course. the american red cross swimming for ppl below 18 course thing, teaches it, at all the places i have worked or visited which is a lot.the lifeguarding course is 3 days at most, there's a coach's version of lifeguarding that is taught by some ppl but i dont know anyone that has done that for someone not a coach and someone they know well
worked in east bay/south bay area, and every public pool in davis
