I'm finally learning how to swim, but watching my teacher isn't enough for me to get the stroke correct...

Question:I signed up for a very popular class that has 1 teacher and 10 adult students...some who are still worried and learning how to float. I feel she should be working with them so I just need a little bit more...step-by-step instruction, what i have already found on the Internet is a bit too advanced. Are there any websites, books or anything that spells out exactly what to do and the timing of it all.
For example with freestyle, how should my arm be in relationship to my body after it reenters the water? and when do I start my other arm stroke?

Any help would be appreciated!

What is a good website to find bathing suits, plus size also.?

Don't worry too much, and let your instructor correct you; that's what the instructor is there for. Don't rush the learning process, enjoy the moment.

Swimming (crawl) is like pulling yourself with a rope arm over arm, but the elbows should break water first during the recovery phase (and the hand re-enters the water with the index and thumb going in first, fingers slightly apart, not cupped overhead in front of you, and the arm should look as though you were reaching over a barrel). Your arm will bend naturally as you pull underneath in accordance with your body buoyancy; if you're very muscular, your body will tend to "ride" low in the water and your arms will compensate, just as if your more buoyant your arms will let you know by way of personal comfort. It normally comes naturally once you're instructed on the general mechanics of swimming.

I miss teaching! It's so much fun watching non-swimmers! I particularly loved teaching those that were afraid of water... to see them from fearful individuals transformed into confident swimmers diving off the board... what a joy to see! But, after 27-28 years... it was time to let others take over. I had other responsibilities (teaching Gymnastics, raising a family).

Practice, practice, practice. Good luck and best wishes but most importantly, enjoy yourself and please swim with supervision always, and never alone in isolated areas.

Can swimming lose thigh fat?

I taught classes while I was a lifeguard. Once you learn the mechanics (and it sounds like you have by the question posed), it just takes practice. Everybody swims a bit differently than everyone else.

To put it really simply...when one arm is under you propelling you along, the other is coming over you (out of the water) and reaching to do the same thing the other arm just did under the water. So basically the arms are alternating the motion.

What parts of your body does swimming actually work?

Practice and practice! Stay after class and ask the instructor, you're his/her student so you have the right. You also sound like you know the basics about swimming, it's just constantly getting into the water, getting comfortable with the water, yourself, and then just swim. Many times we keep thinking am I doing this right, but when we just swim and have fun we get it. Just have fun. Good luck.

Why does my water aerobics class have mostly women? Don't men want to get into shape too?

The very simple answer is practice, practice, practice. Then take an advanced class.

How can I get my 9 yr old son over his fear of the water, in order to get him swimming?

"Pick an apple put it in your pocket" hehe. The only thing I can suggest is practice, also you may want to watch other people swimming, lots of swimming pools (especially olympic sized) have viewing galleries.
