Getting back into shape?
Question:I used to swim competitively, sometime ago. Now i want to get back into it. I started to swim today, but i kept finding myself dying. I couldn't help, but stop. I tend to be a little competitive with a person i am in the lane with and i have to determination to go faster and have that endurance. But when i just swim by myself i don't carry that same confidence. I need help. Any tips on just getting back in to shape.
when i say anything i mean anything.
thank you!

Any tips for the Singapore Swimming Association Skill Test?
I know exactly how you feel! I am also a former swimmer and I'm barely starting to get into it again...the best strategy I found was to take it slow. Go to the gym and lift weights, working on both arms AND lower body. A lot of cardio will help...walking for 30 mins a day.this will just help your body wake up and get used to physical activity. Try to swim in your own lane if possible, and start with a 500 warm up or so, going really slow and paying close attention to technique (include flip turns!). Then, what i usually do is timed sets on any stroke, and if you didn't make your time, keep going! Sprints at the end, and then a nice warm down. Don't forget to bring a water bottle with you, and good luck! :)What are those tan through bathing suits made out of?
Well I suggest conditioning before you get back in the water at all.Running, cycling, sit-ups, lunges, push-ups, the whole nine yards (or should I say 25 meters hehe).
Then when you feel confident get back in the water and swim pyramids at first to get back on your stride.
Example:
Warm Up stretches.
25
50
75
100
125
150
200
150
125
100
75
50
25
Then cool down with stretches.
Or maybe you could only go up to 100 at first. The main thing is not to stop no matter how slowly you have to swim you should finish.
I'm a swimmer but i hate that i have scoliosis and i have big shoulders! What should i do?
Hey me too when i was back in HS. Now in college i love still love to swim! What did is i bought one of those things that make the beats or the clicks so you stroke on a beat! Also if it been a couple months your prolly going to start a bit slower! after a bit you be going at a norm rate! One thing wich does not cost any money! is sing a a song in your head! choose that has beats in it or a good tempo! that really helps me ! When i go to the gym! Also i think ur were in a team you have to stay in shape like sit ups, jogging, and push ups!! that make it easier again!
Keep at it! What you are experiencing is normal. (trust me, I know).
It doesn't have to be every day at first. Shoot for going twice a week for a while, then move up to 3 times a week. it will come. I went through the same thing trying to get back into shape. You WILL see a big difference in just a month. But it give it time.
Try alternating work out days where one day is sprint work outs, and the next is endurance/distance stuff.
Have fun. Do strokes that you didn't used to compete in.
Check into masters swimming to find a team to work out with.

Should I wear anything over my speedo to and from the pool(like shorts or something)?
Lots of push ups and crunches and just take it slowly at first and then work on it some more and run maybe lift weights and that should help alot. Also I would do like 30 minutes cardio, 15 minutes arms with weights and like 15 minutes of crunches or something like that depending on the amount of time you want too. Then I would just like do a slow warmup in the pool and then grab a kickboard and just do a 50 of each kick back, breast, fly, and free and the same thing with the arms. So see where that takes you and just keep on adding more. Also work on breath control.I think best thing to do is keep swimming. Build up your endurance again because you will have lost a lot of it after not swimming for a while. So just keep swimming start of with small distances then build up. Don't overwork yourself though even though you may feel that you want to push yourself more. Something that a lot of athletes don't give much attention to (me included unfortunately) is recovery. Also, if you want to compete when you're alone then best thing to do is to time yourself and try and beat your time. That's what I do and it works for me. Good luck!
