I can't swim full lap and hesistate in deep water.?

Started to learn swimming last month. Have been swimming at least 3 times a week for practice. However, I can't swim full lap cuz I get tired very easily. Why is that? I guess I still need to work on my swimming technique. I had a cramp the other day, and I'm still in a bit pain. I can't wait to go back to the pool (I pay $68 monthly at YMCA) I'm also a bit of afraid going to deep water. The pool isn't deep; it's just from 4 to 6.5 ft. I just don't know whenever I pass the 5ft line, I get nervous and my swimming style starts to fall apart. I had a private trainer for 5 days, and I was able to swim to 9ft deep (different pool).

Does anybody know Danny Rouse?

You might be getting more fatigued because you're tensing up when you get near the deep water. The more relaxed you are, the easier swimming is and the better you will float. Have you tried floating on your back yet? It's sort of like a trust exercise with yourself, but it can help you overcome some apprehension about the water. Just lie on your back and relax - close your eyes even. Breathe deeply too - that helps also.

Take care.

Fins are cutting into my feet?

just focus on your swimming and try not to think of the deep end and think of it as a shallow end and stay calm and focus is my guess. just be cool and calm like me.what city and state do you live in if you want to tell me.

Have you ever seen ?

It sounds to me like you are just as afraid of the water as I am. Also, if your build is slender and you have low body fat, it will be harder to stay afloat. It sounds like you are getting enough practice, I would work on your confidence.
If you are getting cramps, try taking a calcium supplement in the morning and magnesium at night.
Maybe a swimming buddy would help, someone who you can rely on will help you if you do panic, and realize that it is ok, just relax and your head will float.

Best of luck!

Spend a lot of time with your face in the water, I´m not being sarcastic. I used to get panicky and my breathing would get out of rhythm and I´d end up with a mouth or nose-ful of water. Go back to the most basic and get comfortable, in the deep end, by sticking your face in and blowing bubbles. Have fun with it and try to relax. Also it´s hard to concentrate on everything at once, how your arms, legs, head, are moving. Pay more attention to breathing regularly and calmly at first and when you´ve got that refine your stroke. You´re not in open water, there is a life guard, you´re not going to drown, and the worst that can happen is you get up water up your nose.

How does shaving your legs improves your swimming?

water is a meraculous thing...it's thin enough for you to go down to the bottom and it is thick enough to hold you ontop of the water..i swim about 6 miles a day during swim practice and i always think about how i stay on top of the water even when i'm barely moving...kick your feet...it keeps you on top of the water and boom you will be over your fobia...if that doesn't work just try going to the bottom of the pool and swim up to the top that will show you that it isn't scary at all...GOOD LUCK! hey my line is always open at julianeseawolf@yahoo.com...if you need anything..

I was thinking of trying out for the swim team. What should i wear.?

Right now, its just about building endurance. I usually use the ladder trick to build endurance.

Swim a length, then rest for a few seconds
Swim 2 lenghts, and again rest for a few seconds..
Swim 3 lenghts (etc) /4/5/6/7/8 lengths

then reverse
swim 7 lengths, 6 lengths, 5 lengths etc...

As for the depth, count your strokes per lenght. Then swim with your eyes closed.
