After you swim shower and shampoo following with a conditioner. Treat your skin to a good body lotion. Swimming in general is a total body exercise and is a great cardio vascular workout. It is easy on the joints and muscular tissue stress is at a minimum. The initial jump in the cold water is a stimulant to epidermal tissue as well and makes for a good skin treatment. Practice floating as well because swimming is the propelling of the floating body with the arms and legs. Good Luck and Enjoy! What are the basic swimming strokes and how do you perform them?

use a kickboard and goggles and kindof paddle your feet.and --I'd say just shower after every swim you'll be okay
theres special shampoo and soaps for swimmers prevent the chlorine from harming your hair or skin. okay...for the swimming above or underwater part...you just swim with your body floating on the surface and you need to breathe you lift your head to the side when you need to stroke. i'd say you go take some swim lessons.

I used only be able to do this crazy under water swim as well but bite the bullet and take a few lessons and learn how to turn your head to breath if you just stick to doing it on one side its much easier.
If your right handed breath to the right and visa versa
Its just a case of not been afraid to learn

Would you if asked let your child swim with underwear/boxers on under their swimsuit?
swimming is not good for your skin. it dries it out, overproducing oil. when you kick, you just break the surface, and your body should float on top of your water. i'm a swim teamer and i know this because i have been to countless swim camps, and swimming on a team for 8 years, as well as lessons since i was 2How do you convert your time from a meter pool to what it would be in a yards pool?
No one is laughing at your questions. We all had a first time at the pool, and a first time to do lap swims. And nobody likes to look silly, so your questions aren't out of line at all.You are correct about the reaction of chlorine on your skin, but you can minimize that by having a good shower as soon as you leave the pool and using a reasonable brand of moisturizer. Do be sure to rinse your cap and goggles as well, as the chlorine will cause them to deteriorate. The best cap to buy is a silicone one. They stand up far better than the cheap rubber ones. And are much more comfortable to wear.
You'll have to learn to swim on the surface as lap swimming is very difficult to do underwater. Not as good as an exercise, either. But there are swim aids available at any pool that has lap swims -- pull buoys, that you put between your legs so you can swim using arms only (a great training technique) and kick boards that you can hang onto while you kick up and down the length of the pool, which is great for strengthening your abs, gluts and leg muscles.
If you join a club (masters club, for example, which accommodates both recreational and competitive swimmers) you'll get some good training and good technique pointers.
Welcome to the wonderful world of lap swimming. It becomes addictive after a while!
