At what age should a child be taught to swim?
For the upper body the main muscles targeted are the back and shoulders. For the kick targets the glutes, lower back, abs and are the main target areas. The legs in general are used in the kick but if kicking correctly most of the muscles in the hip area are the major muscles involved. A lot of smaller core muscles are used to help keep you balanced in the water.Take a look at the World-Class front crawl swimmers and you can see which muscles are used the most. Don't look in swim catalogs because most of those guys are models and not swimmers
