If you are talking about a serving speed of volleyball, when you toss the ball about two feet above your head (works for tennis serves as well) and hit the ball with the bottom of your palm. By doing this and snapping your wrist, the momentum of the ball changes, making it speed downwards faster. You can also try working up your upper body strength such as your shoulders and biceps. Pushups are ideal, because they do both at the same time and are easy! The same can be applied to any other kinds of serves, but volleyball is just my speciality.

There are several ways in general. Work on your legs, specifically your quads. Doing military squats or you can just do lunges across the tennis court a few times. The generation of power starts in bending the legs, coiling of hips and shoulders, and then the explosion of your legs up towards the ball, with the release of the wrist causing the trailing racket head to impact through the ball.
Important tip: Keep your wrist limp (think spaghetti noodle) through the setup and the stroke. Allow your wrist to snap through the ball as if it wasn't there (do not force the snap, think the tip of a whip when you snap it). This should keep your body movement fluid and keep you from "arming" the ball to much. (shoulder or elbow pain lets you know that you're arming the ball)
The common mistake is to think that swinging harder will make the ball go faster, wrong. Utilizing your whole body and letting that momentum carry your swing through the ball efficiently will inevidentably make your serve better.
Good luck!
