What can i do at home or in my driveway to become a better tennis player?

I have gotten fairly good at the game in the years I have played, but there is still much room for improvement. I dont get alot of opportunities to go to the courts, so is there anything I can do to practice, or improve my game at home?

Exercise: short sprints, long jogs, jump rope, etc.. Build up quads with jumping exercises and calves with running.

Hitting quickly against a wall can help volley technique and just general reaction time.

There are bouncy balls that are all angles or weird shapes availible for purchase. If you bounce it once and try to catch it right away it helps reaction time, short-burst energy, and eye hand coordination.

Serving is hard to do in a small area, but you could always work on your toss. Also there is an exercise I do that could be adapted for a driveway. I kneel at the service line and try to put the serve in the box (works on the snap of the wrist).
Good luck.

There's quite a bit you can do depending on what you want to improve. You can always play "shadow tennis" meaning swinging in front of a mirror to make sure your form looks right and stuff. There's also improving your serve toss. You want to make sure your toss goes to a specific place every time you serve. I'm sure there's more but can't think of them off the top of my head right now. -_-

When will the sets change from 3 to 5 in womens tennis?

I have the same problem. I recently purchased a rebound net that you can hit against without making too much noise and without breaking windows. It is great for groundstrokes, volleys, and even serves. Also, to improve your fitness you can do pushups and situps indoors. It is also very good to practice your motions even if your not hitting with a ball, just to get better muscle memory with your shots. You can also go on the computer and find a site like Tennisone.com where you can watch slowmotion clips of professional players. There are also many online articles addressing strategy and mental toughness. Much of a good tennis players training is off the court.

Reflect - reflect on what happened in the last game. Were there great strokes and hits that you made? Think positively about that sequence step-by-step in your mind. Were there balls you miss-hit? Reflect what happened. Were you tense, were your feet tangled up, or were you just tired?

Play in your head - imagine playing your friend or imaginary opponent in your head. Imagine yourself hitting all the shots precisely, and dictating the shots according to the way you want.

Tennis form - practice, literally like a slow, graceful ballerina on your tennis form. Your backhand, forehand, volley and serve. Watch where your feet, knees, elbows, wrist and head are at each precise movement your moving your body, with respect to where the ball is. Practice each form as if your hitting the ball the way you want it (hard, slow, slice, angle).

Patience - it will take time, but little by little, you will grow. Don't get frustrated, but focus on the positives, no matter how small and insignificant they may seem to be.

What professional tennis player won the men's singles Grand Slam twice?

You can try one of those balls on a string to let you hit strokes. Not sure how good it would be, but I suspect you don't really have any other wall surface to bounce balls against. You can serve into some kind of net. You can also volley against a wall switching between back and forehand.

I have a bang board in my driveway and those are fun and help. You can do sprints or run in your driveway. Try bouncing the ball with your racket and moving the ball on your racket and just practice your swing in your driveway.

How many Grand Slam titles has Federer won till now?

You dont have to hit the ball to be practicing tennis. Footwork is actually just as important as your strokes. Sames goes for your overall fitness. I have played since I was 5, and i got to practice all the time on the courts, but after awhile i wasn't improving much because i had bad footwork and was slow. There is a ball that has bumps coming out and when you bounce it on the floor it goes in all sorts of different directions. It helps you practice how to change direction quickly, which is so important in tennis. Work out, your volleys and serves will become much better if you work out your arms and shoulders, run sprints, etc. Also, there is a little tool you can buy to strengthen your grip. It looks like a nut cracker, only there is resistance.

And this may sound cheesy, but visualize your strokes in your head. My coach always pounded this in my head, but mental game is just as important.

Seriously! What is the best tennis racquet for me?

The tennis industry has come up with lots of new equipment. One of the best ideas are the new foam balls and low pressure balls (good for garage doors and windows - well maybe not windows:)). Both types of balls are good for stroke development - when used on a regular size court, they force you to hit through the ball in order to get them over the net. The foam ball is about the size of a softball, the low pressure is the same size as a regular ball. These can be found at Dick's and Sports Authority - at least in this part of the country.

I use them to help my students refine there shots. College teams use them for a variety of reasons.

Off court work in just as important. Suicides, rapid footwork, change of direction, star drill, etc.

Good luck

How do I strengthen my tennis serve?

I've seen some practice balls that are made of sponge for children to start learning (GAMMA brand) or some very low pressure balls from the TRE-NIS brand. Those will be ideal for practicing at home.
