# of sets in a tennis match?

Question:I'm watching Blake and Agassi right now and they said it's going to 5 sets. How come sometimes it's 3 sets and other times it's 5?

It depends on the level of tournaments. Most minor tournaments will only go to a best-of-3. These tournaments come in between the major pro championships (US Open, Wimbledon, French Open, and Australian open), which are always best-of-5 sets.

Another thing to note is that women always play best-of-3 sets.
