Can anyone tell me why Maria Sharapova is "hot"?

I know she's good at tennis and all, but seriously, the girl's not that great looking. She's getting all this attention for her looks, but when you look at pictures of her... GAH. hideous with spots and everything. And sometimes not even on the court! They should give girls like Maria Kirilenko, Daniela Hantuchova and Ana Ivanovic more publicity. They actually are really good looking on and off the court! Maria is just tall and blonde- but she's not pretty. And she's nothing compared to Anna Kournikova. BUT this is just looks-wise. Of course, without a doubt Maria is a great tennis player, but seriously, can we give credit where credit should be due? I bet if more ads were given to these other girls, their skills would improve dramatically as well, because they're all in at the top. I know tennis gets a ton of publicity from her, but PLEASE get the right people!

I agree with you. I think she is incredibly average looking. Her body is like a rectangle and she looks pubescent. People were just very willing to compare her to Anna because she's from Russia and she ACTUALLY wins tournaments and they're both blond, but Maria is just not anything special.
Her game is unattractive too. Bad technique, Function over form (I think she learned that from Venus). But I'm really tired off all the attention she gets.

I've had the Kournikova vs. Sharapova argument with friends many times. There's no question that Sharapova is the better tennis player, but while I don't think Sharapova is unattractive, I don't see how anyone can compare her looks to Kournikova, or Hantuchova and the others you mentioned. To me, Anna is flat out gorgeous. Some people go so far as to say that not only is Sharapova better looking, but that Kournikova isn't good-looking at all. I question their eyesight. Sharapova is above-average in looks, but not super-hot. Obviously she has the body, but most tennis players do.
