On paper, Spain with Rafael Nadal at No.2 and Tommy Robredo at No.6 in the rankings should be favourites to win. However Robredo is yet to prove himself on hard-courts, and if Spain were to play a country such as Russia on hard-courts, I think they would go down.

The USA also look strong on paper, Andy Roddick at No.4 and James Blake at No.7 in the rankings looks very threatening, however if the USA were to come up against any South American team they are highly likely to lose because A-ROD and Blake have very little success on clay.

The other team that are in with a very good chance is Croatia. Ivan Ljubicic at No.8 and Mario Ancic at No.10 look strong on paper, and both players can play well on all surfaces. Ancic made the semi-finals of Wimbledon, yet also reached the Quarter Finals of Roland Garros, Whilst Ljubicic has won titles on all surfaces, and made the semi-finals of Roland Garros last year.

And let's also not discount Russia, the reigning champions, they boast former world No.1 and all-court player Marat Safin as well as world No.3 and one of the most consistant players of recent memory Nikolay Davydenko. If Russia have a favourable draw, meaning they would have to play at home a lot, I think they have a good chance to take the title.

If previous Davis Cup's are anything to go by, its a toss of the coin to pick the winner! If Roger Federer had a better partner than Stanislas Wawrinka, Switzerland would win hands down, but I don't think any player is capable of winning the davis cup off his own racket. So personally I don't think that a person can honestly tip a confident winner of the cup, most of the teams are very strong and likely to intimidate the other. Davis cup rules!!!
