by guessing you are right-handed, you would come from the right of the ball when serving, Slicing it to your left side. To do the american twist you have to hit the ball the opposite way, hitting it from the left side of the ball and then turning your wrist.Though i usually don't use american twist cause it can damage your wrist.

It sounds like a topspin serve except with more of a side spin. If you cannot do a topspin serve, don't even attempt this. The first guy gave a good description. I would add keep your wrist loose. You hardly get any spin on the ball if your wrist is tight. I have been in tennis for a while (both being coached and teaching), and I have never been taught how to do this serve. Nobody at all of the clubs I played at even mentioned it. It is probably very old school and nobody but old pro's teach it. I would research how to do a topspin serve first.
