Does university of washington (uw) have a tennis team?
The cross court tennis match was played at palme de mallorca between world no 1 roger federer and rafael nadal. The match was won, comprehensively i might add, by nadal.
Undoubtedly both federer and nadal were payed more than a handful by the organisers, and one doubts whether either of them took the match as seriously as they would ,say a, master series final but the final say is that was an enjoyable and unique match, one which will probably not be played again in a long time.So kudos to those who thought it up
Of course it was for commercial gain. Each of the players played the match to help promote the sport and make some MONEY. Welcome to the real world.

What male tennis player won French Open in 1992?
The match was played at Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands(off the east coast of Spain). And of course we know Nadal won it.Now the question of whether the match was played for money...umm i dont think so...
The two greatest players of our time having a go at each other with eachs favourite surface on either side of the net would surely be a mouth-watering contest to savour..
I think the uniqueness of such an event can only do the sport good in that the viewership and popularity ratings would rocket..Remember the Battle of the sexes match from a while ago? Such events do add spice to the sport, plus are fun to do both for the players and spectators..
We've had such events in other sports as well, say boxing ,cricket or baseball..
So to say money would be the sole factor in such matches would be wrong..
