Why is James Blake so overrated?
Take your hand and run your index finger straight down the strings till it points upward. Grip the racket there and find a comfort zone. Once you do find that zone, practice against a wall. I used to play competitively and some coaches tried to change my forehand and it really hurt my game and my arm, Find a comfort zone and just practice, I garuntee you will get it right eventuallyRotate your hips sideways. Bend your knees. Topspin. And find a good grip, that works for you.
The most important thing to know on any ground stroke is where your hitting zone is. Where you naturally strike the ball the hardest. To find this out just grip the raquet with whatever grip you use wether it's continental, eastern, semi western, western, etc. Then swing the raquet slowly in a rotating motion so your whole body gets into the swing then right at the point where your raquet, shoulder, and body line up together should be your hitting zone(generally right out to your side) and it'll be where you strike the ball the hardest because this is the point where your whole body meets the ball not just your arm. Once you've determined where your hitting zone is you should practice slowly and visualize hitting that spot on every shot rotating into the shot hitting through the shot making sure you make contact with the sweet spot(middle of the raquet head strings)and finishing above your left shoulder and vise versa if you're a lefty. If you do this the topspin will come naturally. I would practice this motion very slowly without the ball first until it is ingrained in you are becomes automatic, and it will. Just do it very slowly for about 10 or 15 minutes everyday before you play and your mind will pick up on it and it will be become automatic. Tennis is a fast sport so these motions need to be automatic because if you have to think about how to do it when you're playing you'll already be to late. Also do this same exercise on the back hand side. Your hitting zone on the backhand side should be just in front of your knee cap because this is where your shoulder, arm and raquet should meet the ball at the same time in your swing rotation, and make sure you step into it and follow through.
Also you will need to use good footwork so you can get yourself into position to hit the ball in your optimal hitting zone. Once you get this technique down you should find that it is easier to hit the ball with more power and consistancy since you'll be coming through the ball with your whole body not just your arm in your swing rotation.
Also in order to generate more power you'll have to generate more raquet head speed before you reach your hitting zone or else you'll over hit the ball.
Is SANIA MIRZA, the future tennis star or is going to be the hottest star?
The key is control and top spin. Here are a few tips.1. An open stance or semi open stance is fine - i.e. you do not need to turn sideways - in fact that is not natural or comfortable - it is easier to stand in the direction you are looking to hit the ball. That turn sideways stuff keeps you off balance.
2. Swing low to high, imparting top spin on the ball as you brush up on it - imagine that your arm is a windshield wiper. Think about control over power - the top spin will provide some "jump" in your ball. The top spin will also keep the ball in the court.
3. Finish the stroke - i.e. make sure your follow through is full and wraps behind your shoulder. Look at Roger Federer, or AA, always a wrap finish. Again this will allow you to hit deep and provide the top spin required to keep the ball in court.
Start slowly, going for control and go for more depth and power by imparting more top spin and a full follow through. I revamped my forehand last year using this approach - it has worked wonders for my game.
