Men versus women professional tennis players?
There is no contest. I believe you would have to go very far down the men's list before you would find a player that could not beat the top-ranked woman player. For example, the 200th ranked male could easily beat the world number one woman. It may even go down to 500th ranked. Thoughts?

True. There'd be no contest at all. Men just have much more power and speed. Can you imagine Sharapova returning a Roddick serve? It'd be very one sided. There is a world of difference between the top levels of the men's and women's game.
However, half-men like the william sisters might stand a chance.

Well..it is just natural for men to be physically dominant compared to women..a top 500 player in the world is staying wioth my coach this week...and he hits the ball so harder, so accuratly, from anywhere on the court..now im sure sharapova can get these balls back and they would have a good match...but this man, around 500 for men..would probably beat or have a a really close match with sharapova for the fact that he is stronger faster and has more endurance..even though sharapova might have better technical skills then himWhat is the cost of the electronic line call (hawk-eye) equipment system?
The more things change, the more they stay the same. This is the exact same discussion I'd have with tennis pals some 20 years ago, as a teenager.The women's game has improved exponentially since that time, but the pace of the men's game has evolved as well. Can the 200th ranked man beat the top ranked woman? I can't say for sure, but I think you'd be a lot safer keeping that number at the 100th ranked male. What I do know is that during the bleak era in men's tennis ('90's) when the average point lasted 3 strokes, the women's game developed pace, consistency, depth and ultimately, mass appeal.
The men have since adjusted for the spike in pace seen in the early 90's, but the women's game has established itself as a very viable product in the interim. It's not supposed to rival the men's game, just like women's lacrosse and women's hockey is not the same game as the men's. That doesn't make it less interesting or legitimate.
At the end of the day, corporate sponsors are getting enough return on their investment with women's tennis that they keep coming back for more. That means someone is willing to pay to watch women play. I doubt you can say that about the 200th ranked man...

men ranked otuside the top 1 000 have beaten top ten women.If women learned to play against men from an earlier age, I think that they would have a better chance of winning. I'd say the man would have to be ranked at least 1 500

It's not a totally relevant point. I mean, a classic example being that MANY, many people prefer to watch NCAA basketball and football to the professional leagues for a wide variety of reasons. However, put the worst NBA team up against the best college team and the NBA team would win 99 out of 100 games. However, many still would prefer the NCAA games.Men and women don't play each other. They have totally different unions and organizations. What's the point of hypothetically setting up matches between them?
