I've been told that if you make some kind of sound, say a grunt while you hit the ball it becomes kind of like a reflex, kind of like I've also been told to hop when you hear your opponents racket hit the ball to get you ready for the incoming shot but that's only what I've been told. personally i think that they are maybe tired or just having a hard time hitting the ball hard.Nothing against women players, I've played women players that are much better that i am.
Gladly not all women players grunt like pigs.i know what you mean though.The grunt is just coming from the effort that goes into a stroke.Unfortunately some make a terrible and off putting noise.

i hate women's tennis in general. dont get me started on the grunting.Why is it that tennis is the only sport that can be played on different surfaces?
I've heard of the grunt going back as far as Chris Evert (Lloyd Evert Mill Evert soon-to-be-Norman). At Wimbledon, back when Billie Jean King was The Woman They Loved to Hate, Chrissie was (obviously this was several years before her first marriage) The Girl They Weren't Terribly Fond Of, and she acquired the nickname Little Miss Grunt because she grunted on her serve (which at the time probably got it up to about 60 mph). They might have cracked down on it, but when she married John Lloyd she became much more popular in the UK and it has led to this.Moanica Seles did have some legitimate reason probably based on some martial art or something Eastern, and certainly played rather less well when she tried to suppress it (her one Wimbledon final in 1992; she'd been winning close major finals against Graf but, trying to remain quiet, and fighting cold weather that favoured Graf's low slice backhand, Monica got clobbered).
It would be nice to have tennis matches that could be given a G rating again, but that may not happen anytime soon...

how does a pig grunt?some girls are just taught to grunt. it might be familiar to them. perhaps after lunging for a tough shout, a grunt might be heard. the zenith of the grunt was monica seles. now the williams, russians (particularly sharapova), and many other female players grunt. don't get me wrong. men grunt too. but women are louder. personally, i grunt because i think it helps me stay intense, focused, and hit the ball harder. but this is just my opinion
