I need some details on the backhand slice?
Question:hello,
I need some tips (even details) on the backhand slice:
for example when making contact with the ball in the high-to-low motion should I also have some forward motion as well or should it be brushing against the ball in straight downward motion? Also is there a particular kind of balls where a backhand slice is preferable over a regular backhand swing? and how to make the slice more penetrating?
thanks a lot,
(still) learning

Who's hotter? Rafa Nadal or Marat Safin?
Okay, first of all, the most important thing to remember about you backhand slice is the grip. Use a strict continetal grip, especially if you're looking for it to penetrate the court like you mentioned. The motion is NOT and I repeat NOT STRAIGHT DOWNWARDS. You actually have to "brush out" or push outward at the ball as you go downwards. If you don't push out, then the ball will fly up in the air. You may want to use a backhand slice for light tennis balls. You'll get tremendous depth on the shot. Hit a backhand flat if you have a heavy ball, Penn ATP balls. You'll have more margin for error with a swinging backhand. Good LuckWhen hitting the backhand slice the racket starts up by tour head and you want to swing imagining that your elbow which is bent is staying on a table and the head stays up thorough the whole shot. Obviously id doest , it will dip to get the slice , but if you focus on chopping down on the ball you will never get anywhere. You want to make sure that your always in a closed stance and that you exaggerate your follow through all the at out towards your opponent , it is a long stroke. The contact point is about a foot in front of you which keeps the ball in low and hard and you step in with your right leg (if you are a righty) hopefully with your knees bent.
