What is the shelf life of an open container of tennis balls?

Also, I've heard that if you put a tennis ball in the microwave for 20 seconds, it will rejuvenate the ball. Is this true? I'm not quite sure I want to test this theory in my own house...

The best way to test if a tennis ball is still playable is to hold it at a certain point, say 5 feet in the air, and let it drop to the ground on a hard surface. A good, playable ball should bouce just over half the distance it was dropped from, so atleast 2 and a half feet if dropped from 5. Hope this helps!
